I'm going to go get my road bike fix tomorrow and check out the 4th annual Health Net Portland Twilight Criterium.  I have never been to a bike race like this so it should be a fun new experience.  It's free to watch so come on down to the Park blocks in Portland at  the corner of SW Jefferson and Park Avenue.  It is right in front of the Portland Art Museum.

Sunday is the Bridge Pedal.  Myself and members of DLMNW, & OregonBmx will be doing the ride.

From the Bridge Pedal website:

Together, we are committed to building a healthier community.
Providence Health System is proud to be the title sponsor of the Providence Bridge Pedal and Stride. These events give you the chance to enjoy healthy activities that are fun for all ages. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from Providence Bridge Stride benefits Providence Cancer Center, the largest provider of cancer care in Oregon and a leader in developing innovative ways to prevent and treat cancer.

Philanthropic support helps Providence to continue our 150-year-old mission of service and our commitment to bringing the very best to our patients. When you register for Providence Bridge Pedal, you also have the opportunity to make a donation to Providence Cancer Center. Providence Cancer Center is growing to serve our community.

The Bicycle Transportation Alliance is the beneficiary of the Providence Bridge Pedal.  Since 1990, the BTA has been promoting and protecting the rights of bicyclists in order to create safe, sane and sustainable communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington

Radar at DLMNW.com finally updated his page and boy did he come out swinging.  Radar we missed  you buddy keep it up.  Take no prisoners.

I stopped by Discover Bicycles and checked out the plans for the new Hood River BMX track.  It is going to be short probably 850 - 950 ft. , but the layout looks awesome.  The whole track is a downhill track.  It. has a few stream crossings across bridges. It is also located on the same land as the HR skate park which is bike friendly.  The head of the parks and recreation department donated some money personally I am told.  That is always a good sign when the politicians and government workers are on your side.  The vibe in The Hood is very BMX friendly right now.  I hope they can keep it up.  A future BMX scene, MTB Freeriding, cross country riding as well as a real healthy road scene makes that town probably one of the best places to be a cyclist right now. I will give updates as the track progresses.

Also Check out the info on race # 2 of the Discover Bikes MTB kids race.  The info comes from the Hood River News.

I WENT AND RODE THE APE CANYON TRAIL UP ON MOUNT ST. HELENS TODAY.

http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/trails/locations/msh-0234-ape-canyon.shtml

TRAIL CONDITIONS ARE PRETTY GOOD AT THE MOMENT.  THE ONLY THING I WAS WONDERING ON THE RIDE WAS IS IT SUMMER TIME YET.  WE ENCOUNTERED CONSTANT RAIN DRIZZLE AND FOG.  IT'S ALMOST HALF WAY THROUGH JULY WHAT'S UP.  THE FOG WAS BAD ENOUGH AT TIMES IF A RIDER WAS MORE THAN TWENTY FEET IN FRONT OF YOU THEY STARTED TO DISAPPEAR.  THE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MOST PART WAS GOOD BECAUSE YOU DON'T OVER HEAT.  ALL IN ALL IT WAS A GOOD RIDE.  NOBODY GOT HURT AND WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY MECHANICALS.  I THINK IT IS TIME TO TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF THE BIKE.  MY BODY IS TELLING ME TO STOP AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE CHIROPRACTOR.

I WENT TO REDMOND THIS LAST SATURDAY TO RACE AT THE SMITH ROCK BMX TRACK.   http://www.smithrockbmx.com/   I ALSO WENT AND RACED IN BEND ON SUNDAY AT THE HIGH DESERT BMX TRACK. http://www.highdesertbmx.com/   I HAVE TO SAY THAT IT WAS A VERY FUN WEEKEND OF RACING.  BOTH OF THESE RACES WERE RACE FOR LIFE RACES.  THE TURNOUT FOR BOTH WAS REALLY GOOD.  IT WAS GOOD TO SEE SUCH A GOOD TURNOUT ESPECIALLY IN THE PRO CLASS.  ANOTHER GOOD THING WAS THE SOAP OPERA THAT IS BMX RACING WAS ALMOST NONEXISTENT THIS WEEKEND.  THANK GOD.  I THINK THAT BOTH OF THESE TRACKS RUN FAIRLY GOOD OPERATIONS.  MINOR PROBLEMS AROSE BUT WHERE DON'T THEY.

I HAVE A NEW TEST IN THE PRODUCT TEST AREA TODAY ALSO.

RUMOR:  There may be a new BMX track in OR 01.  I hear that it is going to have a downhill start. It will be ABA sanctioned.  It has been approved by the parks and rec. department, and next needs to be approved by the city.

06/17/2005

Wish I was at the Midwest National in Rockford Illinois with the BMX guys.  Seems like it is going to be a fun time.  Good luck to Darrell Young, David Wray, David Miller, Ken Pliska, & Danny Garcher. If anyone wants to listen to the race go to http://www.istv.com/radio_aba.php .

Here are the listening times.

Saturday June18 at 11am PST and 8am Sunday.
I guess I am going to  race downhill at Skibowl this Sunday . Check Skibowl out at www.skibowl.com. This week it is the T&E Mountain Bike Challenge.   Hopefully it is not another mud festival like last time.

Ground Zero.  Not done developing the site, but I am getting to the finish line.  Not everything works yet.  I went up to Surveyor's Ridge last weekend.  The riding is great right now.  Not to dusty yet.  Wait another month and there will be a few inches of dust.
