Liepold Farms: CX Nationals Prep Race

This will be the last year of Nationals being held in January (next year it’s before Christmas) so a gap developed in our local racing calendar leaving preparation in the balance. What do you do? Well, if your Erik Tonkin, you put on a race. So this one off race was held last Sunday, January 7th and it drew competitors from Seattle and Bend. It was small and intimate with a tight course layout, but racers really went for it. You can understand why these men, women and kids are national-level racers.

For me it was preparation as well as I prepare for my own Nationals experience. Based on the recommendations of Bill Scheiken of In The Crosshairs (THE best website for cyclocross: http://www.cxhairs.com/author/schiek/) I picked of Zhiyun Crane V2 3 axis gimbal and paired it with my Sony A7sii. Additionally, I got to try out two new lenses: Zeiss Batis 18mm 2.8 and Batis 85mm 1.8 and the results are stunning. I will be putting all of it into action this weekend in Reno.
