Many hands make light work. Come help out Jan. 28 or Feb. 4.

Winter greetings, Trail Folk!

Grey skies might make trail time seem like a far-off dream, but Family Man needs your help now. Hood River County has completed its thin of the Family Man area and this is our window to get it prepped for the awesome rebuild and redesign we’ve got planned for spring. (Click here to read more.)

When: January 28 and February 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Come when you can and work for a couple of hours.)
What: We’ll be piling logging debris in preparation for machine mulching made possible with a $5,000 forest fuel reduction grant thanks to the Hood River County Forestry Dept.
Who: We need MANY people to help with this effort. This is an all-hands-on-deck situation.
What to Bring: Gloves, boots, raingear, snacks, and a good attitude. Wheelbarrows would be greatly appreciated, and a couple of chainsaws—electric preferred.

A personal plea from our dedicated HRATS President Tim Mixon:
“I’m excited for the public to see how Family Man looks following the county’s thinning project. The tree spacing is going to make the place gorgeous. Right now, the ground is covered with small debris. The good news is that most of it could be moved by an eight-year-old—so no major heavy lifting required. We believe this massive volunteer effort and mulching is the most effective way to clean up and let the builders we’re hiring save their energy to do what they’re so good at—building great trails. Please try to help on one of these two days for a few hours. A big community effort is needed for the trail builders to begin.”
Park at Family Man Staging area and make sure to check in and sign a waiver before working.
